The winners of our inaugural Flash Film competition were announced on Sunday 17 April at a special event as part of the From Page to Screen film festival.
The festival’s Guest Artistic Director Jonathan Coe selected the winning film saying,
“I was not asked to choose a runner-up for the competition, but I would like to commend Alina Papp’s interpretation of GLASS FLOWERS for its poetic and imaginative imagery, and the rhythmic assurance of its editing.
“However, my choice of winner is THE PRESENT, by Robinson and Simpson from Isis Media. I really admired their imaginative take on the source material; the way they condensed so much of the original story into 60 fluid seconds; their film’s strong, charismatic central performance; and the unexpected balance between humour and seriousness they maintained throughout. A very impressive achievement.”
The creative team of Ben Robinson, Ross Simpson, Matt Hickinbottom had travelled to Bridport from Birmingham for the event and we were delighted to be able to present the prize to them in person.
A special Youth Award was also made to Esmerelda Voegele-Downing for her interpretation of GLASS FLOWERS.
The standard of entries was fantastic and we’re confident that Flash Film will go from strength to strength.
Many thanks to everyone who entered and we hope to see your work in future years.
